I love it when a knowledgeable recommendation is made without motives related to business. Recommendations from people who know what they’re talking about are the most valuable.

With so many kitchen counter top materials available, it’s nice to see a comparison of materials like Corian against the more expensive natural stone materials. A good, even handed evaluation of Corian counter tops is now available from Kitchen-Remodeling-Pictures.com

Marble kitchen countertop materials

Filed under: countertop, kitchen — scottdh @ 3:03 am

You don’t often see marble slab used in kitchen countertops - marble tiles are more common. The problem with marble is that it is more prone to staining damage that other natural and synthetic countertop materials. Tile is more common because replacing a single tile is much easier than replacing an entire damaged slab. It all depends on how careful you are family members are when using a marble kitchen top.

But not all is lost with marble. If you are careful to minimize scratching, clean staining substances promptly, and regularly seal marble then you can avoid the discoloration normally associated with a marble kitchen countertop. Marble tiles are often chosen as an option because they can be replaced when damaged. Replacing one or two tiles over the lifetime of a kitchen countertop is not too burdensome.

Introducing the Kitchen Remodeling blog

Filed under: kitchen, remodeling — scottdh @ 1:03 am

Perhaps the best way to start out the Kitchen Remodeling blog is with an example. A homeowner with an old kitchen - cruddy old tiles make up the counter top, and a few broken tiles were replaced with not-so-close matching pieces from a recycled tile yard. The kitchen cabinets are old and nasty - but solid wood, built in the early sixties.

This homeowner went with a full service company - no subcontractors, no excuses. The solid wood cabinets were refaced, new cabinet doors, and new drawer tubs. Granite countertop, sink, faucet and appliances.

With a full set of before and after pictures, the Kitchen Remodeling Diary site gives an excellent example of the process you’re likely to got through, and the results you can expect. Give it a look-see.
