I love it when a knowledgeable recommendation is made without motives related to business. Recommendations from people who know what they’re talking about are the most valuable.

With so many kitchen counter top materials available, it’s nice to see a comparison of materials like Corian against the more expensive natural stone materials. A good, even handed evaluation of Corian counter tops is now available from Kitchen-Remodeling-Pictures.com

Marble kitchen countertop materials

Filed under: countertop, kitchen — scottdh @ 3:03 am

You don’t often see marble slab used in kitchen countertops - marble tiles are more common. The problem with marble is that it is more prone to staining damage that other natural and synthetic countertop materials. Tile is more common because replacing a single tile is much easier than replacing an entire damaged slab. It all depends on how careful you are family members are when using a marble kitchen top.

But not all is lost with marble. If you are careful to minimize scratching, clean staining substances promptly, and regularly seal marble then you can avoid the discoloration normally associated with a marble kitchen countertop. Marble tiles are often chosen as an option because they can be replaced when damaged. Replacing one or two tiles over the lifetime of a kitchen countertop is not too burdensome.

Granite countertops - putting cost aside for a moment

There’s two types of kitchen counter tops. There’s the normal old tile or formica that can indeed be designed and installed to look terrific and really give your kitchen a sense of sophistication and class. But when it comes to sophistication and class, there’s nothing that beats the granite kitchen counter top. There are some really cool, textured formica patterns out these days and some great new composite concrete like materials too. But none of them look as good as granite.

If you need some help justifying the added expense of a granite kitchen counter top, then be sure to stop by kitchen remodeling pictures and have a look at Granite counter tops. If you’re not convinced, then the other materials really are best for you. But you owe it to yourself to at least see.

A well sealed and maintained granite will keep it’s mirror like shine for many years. Your friends, family, or neighbors might have granite that is dull and doesn’t pop at all. It probably did on the day it was installed, but abrasive cleaners, gritty particles under slidey things, and using chemicals like ammonia can take their toll.
