Filed under: Blogroll, bathroom, lighting — Tags: , — scottdh @ 4:26 am

There are many different configurations you can use for your bathroom light switch when there are a number of different light and fan options to control. It’s surprising how bast they can add up in a big bathroom remodeling job.

But there are some things to know about this before you make more trouble and work for yourself than needed. If you find that you cannot live with the options the local ordinances require, there’s things you can do about that - but do you really want to?

If you have a bathroom light switch pack rewired according to safety codes after the inspection has passed you might be a lot happier with the arrangement, but there are very good reasons to try living with the local requirements for bathroom light and fan switches

Bathroom ventilation fans

Filed under: bathroom, bathroom remodeling — scottdh @ 4:03 am

A ventilation fan is one of the best additions to a bathroom when you are remodeling. Without one, the room takes tool long before it’s comfortably usable again. And if that’s not motivation enough, constant moisture exposure from a hot shower can eventually cause damage to a well used bathroom.

But not all bathroom ventilation fans are the same. There’s nothing worse than trying to save a little cash and getting a unit that is noisy or incapable of getting the job done. Make sure you get it right the first time. Be sure to see Bathroom-Remodeling-Pictures.com piece on Bathroom ventilation fans before making your purchase. You won’t regret it.

Bathroom vanity sink faucets

A bathroom faucet can cost a lot of money. Usually someone remodeling to sell a house will use the cheapest plumbing fixtures they can find. The new owner probably wont go out and buy a high end faucet since the cheap one isn’t broken. After all when you’ve just bought a new house, buying a new expensive bathroom faucet is probably not the most important use of funds.

When you are remodeling a bathroom for your own luxury, you won’t want to to skimp on a cheapo faucet. It just wouldn’t look right and even if its the master bathroom, away from visitors use, you will still know about the cheapo faucet.

So when deciding which direction to go when purchasing a bathroom faucet, it helps to have someplace to read up on what others have done, and what they would do differently in the future. That’s where Bathroom Remodeling Pictures.com comes in handy with the new section on bathroom faucets

Bathroom cabinet granite tops

You really can’t go wrong with granite for your bathroom vanity cabinet countertop. Resin materials are common and inexpensive, but it defeats the purpose of remodeling a bathroom. Granite tile is an option for many, and that’s fine too.

But a solid granite slab countertop for your bathroom vanity cabinet is the ultimate in luxurious spaces. See the difference with pictures at www.Bathroom-Remodeling-Pictures.com issue on granite countertops for bathroom remodeling.

Vanity cabinet knobs

Hardware is one item where you get your choice of normal understated or unusual eclectic conversation starters. They can either be subdued functional piece of the furniture or they can add to the decor. Get too close to the line and you’re easily over the top of good taste and propriety.

It’s fun to play around with different kinds of cabinet knobs, because they’re so easy to change - they’re not permanent. They require only one small hole for a mounting screw, and that’s the same for all cabinet knobs. There’s some really outrageous vanity cabinet knobs made of stone. Perhaps over the top for some tastes, they can easily be changed.

Tar paper water barrier

Filed under: bathroom, remodeling, shower — scottdh @ 6:10 am

Tar paper is one of those things that we’ve probably all seen around or installed at some point or another, but what is it really - I mean what makes tar paper - could it really be as obvious and simple as the name implies? And does it really do anything to prevent moisture intrusion which eventually results in rot? Why wouldn’t something like plastic tarp material provide for an even more effective barrier to water intrusion than tar paper?

Typically, tar paper is simply stapled to the layer beneath it. In the example tar paper bathroom shower stall we can see exactly how tar paper is installed in some of the finer points of getting all your surfaces covered with the material, leaving noting exposed to elements directly.

Bathroom lighting and vent fan

Remodeling your master bathroom is expensive enough. And lighting decor agreeable items are difficult enough to find. The last thing you need is your local city inspectors abutting in and telling you how to spend your money, and on what types of fixtures, switches, and yes - even circuits!

Here’s a great dissertation on dealing with inspectors, messing with their heads, send them bouncing out your doorstep happy as a clam, and then correcting their mess - all with minimal cost and aggravation to you.

After all - who’s bathroom remodeling and lighting project is it? If you’re like me, the thought of city ordinance, inspectors, fees, and officials is infuriating - it’s none of their business. You can have your bathroom remodeled the way you want while paying little more than lip service to local ordinance inspectors.
